Equipment Project Engineer

WellGear is the industry leading supplier of Hydraulic Workover, Plug & Abandonment and snubbing units and services. We are looking for a suitable candidate to join our fast-growing and dynamic business. The successful candidate will perform a vital role in the growth of a motivated close-knit team.

Role

The Equipment Project Engineer is responsible for managing projects from concept through completion, including designing, installing, and maintaining equipment to meet project goals, budget, and safety standards. Key responsibilities include developing project plans, managing cross-functional teams, liaising with vendors, overseeing budget and resources, and ensuring all equipment performs safely and efficiently.

The role will cover both internal and external projects as below:

  • For internal projects the role will cover all major equipment builds and overhauls from planning. They will be expected to work alongside the existing engineering, procurement and workshop teams to achieve success. The equipment being worked on will be structural, mechanical, hydraulics and electrical.
  • For external projects the role will cover offshore reactivation scopes. From the survey of equipment offshore to its repair / replacement / design and actual installation offshore. They will be expected to work with the client, produce work packs and manage offshore operations from onshore.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Project planning and management

  • Develop project scopes, timelines, budgets, and detailed work plans.
  • Identify project requirements, set objectives, and manage resources (personnel, materials, equipment).
  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle, including design, procurement, installation, and commissioning.

Cross-functional collaboration

  • Liaise with internal teams (e.g., maintenance, operations, other engineering disciplines) and external stakeholders (e.g., contractors, suppliers, clients).
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of engineers and other staff involved in the project.

Quality, safety, and compliance

  • Ensure all work is performed to company standards, safety rules, and legal regulations.
  • Identify and manage project risks, including health and safety hazards.

Budget and procurement

  • Manage project costs and track expenses to ensure the project stays within budget.
  • Oversee the procurement of necessary equipment and materials.

Reporting

  • Track project progress against goals and provide regular status reports to management and clients.
  • Prepare and manage project-related documentation, including drawings and budgets.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree is preferred but not essential.
  • Would suit a candidate that has experience in a similar role within the industry.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience of hydraulic, mechanical, and drilling related systems.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple teams and tasks simultaneously.
  • Can do attitude.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Takes pride in their work.
